Painting is the expression of the inner voice of the artist. The success of a piece of art can be measured in a number of different ways, but to me, success must come when that voice has been expressed with directness and honesty. Simplicity is the goal in my effort to attempt to allow the idea to emerge. (Steve Walker)

Tracy Wall

Tracy Wall's artists statement: A common thread you'll find in my work is a fascination with how the characteristics of light affect what we see. Whether it's in sunlight falling between the leaves of a tree or candlelight on a glass of wine, I'm drawn to these variations. Our perception of color and form is dependent upon the source of light causing shapes, edges, and texture to change. From this interest, my work sheds new light on everyday life inviting the viewer to observe familiar scenes as if for the very first time.

Barbara Walter

Barbara Walter's artist statement: I enjoy the liberating experience of being an artist. There are no rules, only unlimited ideas. Every medium has its unique and exhilarating properties, like the juiciness of oils or the vibrancy of pigmented wax. There is also subject matter for paintings everywhere--the beautiful fall sunsets, the brilliant colors of farm fresh vegetables, the grace of a snow skier hurtling downhill, or the smiles on childrens' faces. At times I create works that are representational because I like solving the puzzle of creating something in two dimensions that does justice to the 'real' thing or person. At other times, I just let the medium create the dynamics, and let the emotions or the shapes emerge.

Kimberley Walton

Kimberley Walton Artist Statement: For me, especially since I have had children, painting has been my form of relaxation and escape from my world of being a homemaker. It has provided me an outlet for my creativity, a time for myself and no one else. I love doing florals and landscapes, as I am often inspired by my own garden. Painting takes me to a higher level of consciousness. I am especially fond of seeing colors in nature, and being able to create a single color out of many mixed together; and explore how each compliments one another. Acrylic paint allows this symbiotic mixture to happen.

Deb Ward Artwork

Deb Ward

The luminous quality of watercolor and the way colors mingle on the paper are what drew me to the medium. My favorite way to use watercolors is by glazing (layering of colors). Another favorite way to use the medium is by dropping color onto very wet paper, then spattering or dripping paint and salt to create texture in the original wash layer. I also love color - my palette holds 22 colors and sometimes that’s not enough. I enjoy working in a "series" of similar subjects or ideas, in a realistic manner. My subject matter rarely involves an actual figure, but often implies the human element. "With few exceptions, when you see my work you know exactly what you are looking at."

Margaret Warfield

I am an artist whose name is Margaret Warfield. This art journey that I am on, officially, began in 1982, when I was commissioned to paint the "Estate Home" of a family in Lawrenceville, GA. The foundation of my interest in art, however, was initially cultivated at Tennessee State University where I received a B.S. Degree in Clothing and Textiles and a Minor in Art. Color and the effects of color on the psyche fascinated me. My husband, Harry Allen is my main source of encouragement. He is always available to critic my work and tell me how wonderful I am. My journey as an artist has been one filled with the joy of sharing, with the public, my concepts of reality. I think of myself as an artistic communicator, wishing to transform and extend perception and stimulate views toward new insights and expressions. All of my paintings contain elements of hope and love. I believe that, "Art is a language; its purpose is to open a dialogue between the art and the viewer."

Blaze Warrender

Although untrained, my fascination with texture and medium led me to apprenticeships in Italy & Guernsey and a course in Chinoiserie brush techniques at Beijing University, China. At this time my strongest influence was French Surrealism, a style which led me to question my own perception of reality. On a visit to San Francisco I found myself strongly drawn to a group of artists based in Sausalito. Rousseau-like, their wildlife fantasias reconnected me with my own inner Universe, and so began my visionary journey into art.

Walter S Watson Artwork

St Andrews Harbour

Walter S Watson

Walter S. Watson artist statement: In 2006, we moved to St Andrews on the beautiful east coast of Scotland (the west coast is not bad either!). I was bowled over by the combination of big skies, brilliant wee towns and villages tumbling down to the sea, together with the clarity of the light that made everything seem so alive. This has stimulated me to return seriously to painting and too a looser style of painting in particular. I mainly paint in watercolours because of the transparency of the medium and, to be honest, I don’t like to spend days and weeks on the same picture – watercolour is immediate and, if you don’t paint quickly, the spontaneity goes out the window. Also I don’t like the smell of turps.
