A lifetime of artistic endeavours, working experimentally in several media, has brought overlapping layers of life, enthusiasm and creativity to her present body of work.
Proficient in painting, mixed-media collage and printmaking, she continues to explore and experiment. Pehme is very much process oriented preferring to let the image lead her – to commit and correct and not get too attached to representational imagery. She refers to her current work over the past 10 years as Merged Media, a marriage of creative disciplines. Her methods and techniques often involve traditional pigments applied to a variety of supports prepared specifically for her layering work. These are then utilized in combination with high-resolution captures by a large format scanner. The use of an electronic drawing tablet expands the possibilities.
Her completed works speak to Expressionism, semi-abstract to abstract. Inspiration is abundant locally from the coast’s natural seaside environment, its fjords, forests, valleys and hillsides. Pehme finds treasures here, which keep her mindful of why she has chosen to live and work in this most pristine of environments.
