Roger W. Carlson was born in the Midwest and now resides in Colorado. He has lived in Europe and travelled extensively on the continent as well as England and the Far East. Because of this background, his subject matter is divided between Western U.S subjects and settings found in Europe. |

Roger W. Carlson paints mostly in oils both en plein aire and studio work. His style is impressionist with some pieces contemporary realism for national organization shows. His canvases are generally in sizes between 12 x 16 and 30 x 40 inches. He works carefully from real life and reference material to develop certain unique characteristics of the subject and present that subject in special light, such as cool light, warm shadows or the reverse. Color is used for mood and ranges from monochromatic to all primary colors mixed for harmony effects.
Roger is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Society of Master Impressionists, and the American Plains Artists and participates in those national organization shows around the United States. Most of the artist's work is collected by private purchasers through gallery and studio sales or through major shows. Roger W. Carlson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as well as a Master of Arts and has studied with a number of commercially successful artists in the Midwest, the Rocky Mountain area and in Europe.
